power or authority. Most had to share the king with other wives and were not mentioned in genealogies. The most famous queens include Bathsheba, Jezebel' Vashti, Esther, and the queen of Sheba
Athaliah is the only queen of Israel or Judah who ever ruled in place of the king.

Mother of the king. In the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, the queen mother always had more power and authority than the king's wives, and her name was always listed in the genealogies. Many wives' names were left out of the genealogies. Two of the Bible's most notable queen mothers are Bathsheba and Rehoboam's wife Maacah. One of the most evil was Athaliah.
