Mama Told Me I Had An Angel
This true story happened when I was 9
or 10. I remember it very clearly.
I was very sick with Pneumonia, and i was getting ready for bed. My mom
came and told me that if I needed her at all while she was sleeping, to
knock three times real hard on the wall (We lived in a trailer) and the
dogs would bark and wake her up.
Now let me explain these two dogs. One is a chihuahua/yorkie mix and the
other is a toy poodle, who sleep at the end of my moms bed. They both can
hear a pin drop from a mile a way, and at any unknown sound, bark with
their annoying high-pitched barks until they find out the cause of the
Anyway, when my mom told me to knock on the wall, I just nodded my head.
Now let me tell you about me. I'm usually pretty shy and dont like to get
in other peoples way. So, knowing my mom had to get up early in the morning,
I knew that I wouldn't be able to wake her up no matter what.
I lay in bed and fell asleep. At around 2 in the morning, I woke up feeling
horrible. I was coughing and knew I had a fever. I couldnt get myself to
knock on the wall. I grabbed a pillow and a blanket, and started walking
to my moms room, not knowing what else to do. I layed down on the floor
at the end of my moms bed, out of sight. I would feel embarrassed if she
woke up and saw me.
I started getting worse as the night went on. I was feeling miserable.
It was getting harder and harder to try and muffle the sound of my coughs,
not wanting to wake my mom. Eventually I broke down and started crying
and silently praying to god to please help me. I wasnt sure of what else
to say. So I quietly cried harder in the dead silence.
A little while later, I heard my mom starting to wake up. Panicking, I
slid myself under her bed, not wanting to be discovered. My mom walked
out of her room and into mine by the sound of her footsteps. I heard her
call my name.
I got up weakly and walked to her. She immediately pressed her hand to
my forehead and put a thermometer in my mouth. The first thing she said
was, "Thank goodness you knocked!" She told me my temperature was around
"But mama, I didnt knock. I was hiding under your bed, unsure of what to
do. I didnt want to wake you up.", I said. My mom was quiet for alittle
bit. Then she said, "Baby, your guardian angel woke me up. I heard three
loud knocks. The dogs didnt even go crazy. You didn't hear it? It was very
It took me awhile to process this. I shook my head no. I didnt hear anything.
"God answered my prayer then.", I told her. That was when I realized God
really does listen, and love me. Even today my eyes tear up every now and
then when I remember that night.
